Present Continuous Tense



Definition :-
Present Continuous Tense is used to narrate a continuous action of present time. When an action is going on in present  is called to be in Present Continuous Tense.
Usage:-
 Present Continuous Tense is used to express
1.       An action which is going on till now.  We are reading. Robin Sing is playing.
2.       Present plan for the future. We are leaving for London next month.
Future Intention/ Wish:-
To express future intention or wish, ‘going to + main Verb’ is better to use.
We are going to organize a blood donation camp next month.
Steve is going to give up smoking.
Word formation by Adding ‘ing’ :-
1.       If an ‘e’ is at the end of a verb, the ‘e’ is removed and ‘ing’ is added. Come + ing =coming, take + ing = taking , leave + ing = leaving
2.        ‘ie’ of a verb turns into ‘y’ . The ‘ie’ sits at the end of the verb. Die + ing = dying, lie + ing = lying
3.       If the ending Consonant is preceded by a vowel in monosyllabic (one-syllabic) word, the Consonant at the last point of the word becomes double after the addition of ‘ing’. Ru + ing =running, dig + ing = digging
Some Verbs Not To Be Used in Continuous Tense :-
 Believe, come from, cost, depend, exist, feel, hate, hear, hope, know, like, smell .
