Infinitive Phrase





Infinitive Phrase:-
An Infinitive Phrase is a Phrase which works as a Noun, Adjective or Adverb is formed by adding ‘to’ Preposition to a Verb.

Here infinitive phrase has been described according to their functions.

Noun:-
To swim is a good exercise.
Here ‘to’ Preposition is added to the Verb ‘swim’ and makes Infinitive Phrase, ‘to swim’. It works as the Subject of the Sentence. It works as a Noun.

Adjective :-
Infinitive Phrase works as Adjective.
The best thing to remember forever in his character is his stout nature.
 The part, ‘to remember forever in his character is his stout nature’ works as the Adjective of the word ‘thing’.

Adverb :-
Infinitive phrase works as adverb.
Brian Lara decided to open the innings in the second match to keep his players aloof from fighting against each other.
The part,’ to keep his players aloof from fighting against each other’ functions as an adverb because it explains why Lara opened the innings.
