A Gerund Phrase begins with a Gerund, an ‘ing’ ending word. It is often empowered with modifier and or object. It works as a noun. It is a subject, subject-complement or object in the sentence.

1.      Eating early in the dinner is a healthy habit.
‘Eating early in the dinner’ is the subject.

2.      The stronger strategy to defend is attacking the opposition.
‘Attacking the opposition’ is the subject complement to the verb ‘is’.

3.      He tried catching the ball.
‘Catching the ball’ is the object to the verb ‘tried’.
