Changes of Tenses




(i)The Tense of the Verb in the Reported Speech will not be changed if the Reporting Verb is either in Present Tense or in Future Tense.
(ii)In case of ‘universal ‘truth’, ‘habitual fact’ ,’historical fact’ ,the tense of the Reported Speech will not be changed. 
Direct Speech
Indirect Speech
The teacher said to the students,” The earth is round.”
The teacher told the students that the earth is round.(universal truth)
Pinaki said ,”I walk for an hour everyday in the morning .”
Pinaki said that he walks for an hour everyday in the morning.(habitual fact)
Kanaibabu said to the girls,” Napoleon is a megalomaniac.”
Kanaibabu told the girls that Napoleon is a megalomaniac.

(iii)The Tense of the Verb in the Reported Speech will be changed , if the  Reporting Verb is in the Past Tense.
